Many thanks to Sue for leading us on Friday. The last time Sue led this walk - she didn't! The weather was appalling and only one other walker was foolish enough to turn up thinking that there was a chance the walk might go ahead!
Today we gathered in a mood as brilliant as the sunshine, and congratulated Sue on organising the weather better this time. As you can see from this picture and our smiles, shorts, sunhats and even a dress - the weather was glorious!
Unfortunately we had jinxed the walk by congratulating ourselves too soon on the wonderful weather! And only 30 minutes after setting out we frowned at some approaching dark clouds and heard some ominous growling thundery sounds from above! The clouds soon proved to be full of rain which, accompanied by thunder and lightning, they released - heavily - over us!
We sheltered until it eased under some trees (hmmmm ... ), and we were glad that some resourceful people had packed their brolles! But later the rain set in meaningfully and we were glad that Sue knew a short cut back to the car park!
We didn't stop for coffee, as many of us were soaked through and we all felt in need of dry clothing.
Meanwhile Sheila had set out with Gabriella and Kyung-Sook, likewise unprepared for a drenching, and, after sheltering under an inadequate tree for a while, they were soon soaked to the skin and threw in the towel (ah, if only any of us had had a towel to throw in!) and retreated to their cars and home.
