Paulette's walk in Overijse on July 30th 2010

Here we were, 9 ladies ready to try a new walk in Overijse. A longer walk than usual (two and a half hours), with some hills and difficult gravel and stony paths in shady sunken lanes but all in all very nice and diverse. We started with a steep hill behind the church that took us into a residential area for an hundred meters. Afterwards, we entered a field followed by little woods along a small creek before climbing towards a breezy plateau covered in wheat and barley fields then went down all the way to the peaceful ponds along the road to Neerijse. On the way we stopped to watch lovely, healthy looking white cows, a black goat with 4 horns(?) while some of us were eating wild blackberries. At the end of the walk, pancakes and coffee in Jesus Eik were more than welcome.

Paulette's walk in Alsemberg on July 26th 2010

Today was a surprise day as nothing went the way we planned. Nevertheless or maybe because of that, it was kind of exciting. First of all, our usual café Het Plein was closed, so we hoped the one in the Fabriekstraat midway through the walk would be open (which turned out to be a pious hope). From the beginning we were faced with a big dilemma. Our lovely path along the little river had disappeared in a mixture of holes, mud, planks because of demolition and reconstruction works. But we persevered audaciously to get to the other site of the excavation as we knew the little river was our point of reference. And we were rewarded from our efforts because suddenly we found ourselves in terra cognita. Afterwards the walk was as enchanting as ever with a little diversion here and there, sometimes on purpose sometimes by accident. The last and loveliest surprise of the day was to see a group of carthorses including a newborn. All in all a real mystery walk, all the more as we had to repair to Vastiau Godeau to get a cuppa.

Charlotte's Walk in Groenendaal

Groenendaal Station car park saw eight WIC walkers arrive in a slight drizzle. The walk was completely in the forest and took us by lakes and a very small house. We even found a giant snail climbing up the trunk of a tree. Luckily the rain stopped, so we were able to sit outside the cafe to enjoy our well deserved drinks.

Monday 19 July 2010

Twelve ladies and one dog arrived in Vossem. As it was so hot, we decided to change the route so that we could be in the shade. After following the Voer to Tervuren Park, we walked under the trees as much as possible. We had the obligatory photo stop for our 'WIC on the Rocks'. After over 7 kms. the cafe came as a welcome sight.

Paulette's walk in Beersel on July 16th 2010

What a lovely walk we had in Beersel! Only 30 minutes to get there from town. No works on the South ring anymore. The weather was just perfect and Yuko, Ghislaine and myself enjoyed the very diverse and bucolic paths through little woods, along pastures with sheep and cows and beautiful vistas of the northern part of Brussels including the Atomium

Large fields of golden wheat and barley surrounded by very green woods

and after a good 2 hours, a well deserved fresh drink in the shade of a cafe nearby.
We'll certainly will do that one again soon.

Here is the map for our walk

We started from the Elephant car park, bottom left on the map, then went clockwise round the 'circle'. We walked 9.47km in 2 hours and 14 minutes - not bad going in that heat - and used 508 calories.

Anne's Tervuren walk Monday 12th July

Anne's rescheduled walk today took eight stalwart ladies from the Elephant at the museum, over the fields and down through Moorsel Bos, up through Vossem and finally down through a 'sunken road' to the lake. It was pleasant walking under the trees beside the lake. There was a moment to pose in front of one of the wonderful wooden elephants, before going for a refreshing drink.

Anne's Jesus-Eik walk

With temperatures over 30 degrees, we were very pleased that today's 6.5km walk was in the cool shady forest .

The terrace at Istas was very busy, but we managed to link up three tables so we could all sit together. We were really ready for our drinks today!

Sheila's Easy Walk - Jesus Eik - July 9th 2010

A small group of us welcomed Sheila's easier walk from Jesus Eik, especially as it was 99% under the trees and thus sheltered us from the hot sun! Not that we're complaining about the sun - we've waited long enough for it to arrive! THANK YOU SHEILA for a lovely walk.

Here we are:

Here are a couple of close-ups of two of our regular doggy walkers - first Truffles, who would only stop still long enough for a photo if bribed with doggy treats!

Milky, our second doggy, decided that having a ride from Yuko might be more fun than walking in the heat!

And here's Truffles after an unscheduled swim in a rather muddy water hole - the photo doesn't really do justice to the change of colour of his legs!
