Fri., Aug. 29th Bonnie's Jezus-Eik Walk
Giving credit where it is due ... Bonnie really did this afternoon's walk. Although Sandy was ready with her map Bonnie knew the forest a lot better and offered to lead us through her own routing so the timing worked out to about 1 hour and 45 minutes. Bonnie even had on her wrist gps and told us we had completed over 7.5 kilometers. If she can get us a map of our route we will make that available, too! "Thanks, Bonnie"!
Fri., Aug. 29th Bonnie's Jezus-Eik Walk
Here we paused a the Arboretum entrance which we reached at the end of today's walk for one of our group photos. We had a visitor, Anne F's sister, and a new walker, Joanne join us today. We hope they both enjoyed their introduction to the WIC Walkers on this end of summer walk. We were surprised to see that some of the trees in the Arboretum were already changing to fall colors ... !!!
Fri., Aug. 29th - Bonnie's Jezus-Eik walk
We were all spread apart on this walk with grouping of 3 or 4 along the paths where the space would allow. The sun never did come out until the end of the afternoon after our walk but we had no rain with the cloudy skies. With the temperature at about 20C it was not bad walking weather but the humidty seemed to hint of warmer weather over the weekend. Tomorrow is suppost to approach 27C!
Fri., Aug. 29th - Bonnie's Jezus-Eik Walk
We chose this cafe hoping to have some of their delicious hot mente tea unfortunately they were out of the mint. The staff at the Cafe de la Foret restaurant though were nice enough to allow us to move their tables together to make 2 long rows to accomodate the 17 of us who showed up for today's walk. Here is an attempt to capture a photo of all of us. We had a fun time and some of the ladies even indulged in the crepes. Jane took the opportunity to send around some printed information on the Giant Hogweed, a dangerous and poisonous plant, which is now in Belgium and there will be more forthcoming about it on the blog. "Thanks, Jane" for keeping us advised on this.

Mon., Aug. 25th - Kathleen's City Walk
Kathleen, (green top) one of our newer walking members, put together a fine inner city walk for us to follow this afternoon. We met near Montgomery Circle at the Boileau metro stop entrance (#5) where we gathered as she handed out maps that she had prepared for us to share. Kathleen was very organized with this effort and we apprecite the time and attention she took for us. She picked out sites and special houses for us to observe as we followed her 2 hour route around her Etterbeek commune.
Mon., Aug. 25th - Kathleen's City Walk
We passed through many beautiful park settings and here is just one of them where we paused to be recorded. This one from Kathleen's camera was able to catch the statues in the back also. We were fortunate to have such nice weather to enjoy the afternoon's walk.
Mon., Aug 25th - Kathleen's City Walk
Trying to keep up with all the walkers usually strung out along the streets as we made our way along Kathleen's route was a bit of a challenge. Here though we were a bit more together as we stopped to observe another of the points of interet that Kathleen had emphasized on her map for us to take note of.
Mon., Aug. 25th - Kathleen's City Walk
Just ONE more pose for the camera ladies as the 12 of us exited through Brussel's famous Cinquantenaire arch constructed during the reign of Leopold II to celebrate the 50th anniversary of the country. It is always an impressive sight and worth reexploring every once in awhile just to make sure it is still there!
Mon., Aug. 25th - Kathleen's City Walk
The ladies were happy to end their afternoon outing at a comfortable terrace cafe on the Av. Tervuren not far from our starting spot. Cool drinks seemed to hit the spot as we continued our conversations and enjoyed the beautiful weather with temperatures about 23C. It was a great way to savor a good weather day at the end of August in Brussels and our "Thanks" go to Kathleen for working this inner city walk out for us.

Greetings from Alison in Stockholm!
Sandy (right) was able to catch up with our recently departed friend, Alison, who is now making her home in the beautiful city of Stockholm! Alison sends her greetings and love to all the WIC walkers and wants them to know that she is enjoying her new and exciting life and that she has finally settled into an apartment in the city. Alison took Sandy on a great WIC walk of sorts around several of the small islands and through town on a beautiful afternoon. We hope to see her on a return trip to Brussels before too long.
Sandy was excited to see what a great job the WIC Walkers have done keeping up with the blog in her absence. "Thanks, Ladies"!!!

Charlotte's walk - 22nd August
What a lovely picture of happy WIC Walkers!
We were especially pleased to welcome Joanne (second from right) to the group today.
Thank you Charlotte for organising this exciting walk for us (and especially for persuading Miam to stay open a little later than usual to serve our drinks after the walk!)
Charlotte's walk - 22nd August
We saw lots of interesting animals and plants on our walk today, especially this beautiful passion fruit plant growing on a wall and covered with delicious passion fruit.
Charlotte's walk - 22nd August
Charlotte led seven intrepid walkers plus Spartacus on an adventurous walk in the beautiful countryside around Ohain.
Paulette's Beersel walk last Monday 18th August
Last Monday's walk was the Beersel walk, one of my favourite walks, because it is so diverse. It takes us on pastoral paths between sheep and horses (we even saw a young horse still feeding on his mother) and on plateaus from where you can see lovely landscapes. Of course we couldn't see the'"Palais de Justice" of Brussels or the Atomium because it was drizzling most of the time. But good humour was with us although we had to fight the mud on many occasions. The effort was well worth it because delicious crepes were waiting for us at the end of our adventure.

Kyung-Sook's Walk
On Monday August 11, we took off from Kyung-Sook's apartment building on
Avenue de Tervuren, for a stroll along the avenue and into the Woluwe Park.
Though the weather looked threatening at times, and we were prepared for the
worst with umbrella's and jackets, not a drop of rain interfered with the
fun. At her home we feasted on lovely homebaked cake and other delicacies,
in which Truffels, the dog, showed also a vivid interest! Thank you,
Kyung-Sook, for a very nice afternoon!

Yuko's walk - Friday 8th August
There was plenty to talk about as we enjoyed our refreshments!
(Apologies to everyone who was on the walk but doesn't appear in the pictures - I'll try to get it right next time).

Yuko's walk - Friday 8th August
Yuko had set the table for us with a delicious chocolate cake and lots of dainty Japanese treats and decorations.
Yuko's walk - Friday 8th August
We didn't get any pictures of Yuko's lovely walk in the forest around Rouge Cloitre - but this was the beautiful view of her garden which greeted us when we arrived back at her house.

More from Monday 4th August
Here is a picture that ought to have gone on the Blog on Monday - I thought it had, but now see it hadn't. No idea what happened, but here we go again.
This is the group relaxing in the cafe after the walk. We had done 7.25k up and down several hills, took 1hour 45 minutes and used up 405 calories. There was one casualty, but we picked her up, dusted her down and so many sticking plasters were offered to cover her scraped elbow that we could have patched up the whole of Belgium!

Tervuren Lake

Fri., Aug. 1st Anne's Tervuren Walk
We passed through a lot of territory today some of it under cover of the forest. We started from Anne's home in Tervuren and returned there after the walk for refreshments and had the opportunity to enjoy her comfortable garden in mid-summer. We had an amazing 16 in attendance and kudos go to Anne, Charlotte and the other ladies who helped put it all together.
Fri., Aug. 1st Anne's Tervuren Walk
At the intersection "the Zevenster" we paused for this photo at the site of the three bolders which according to Denzil Walton's brochure on his Tervuren Walk are placed at the meeting of seven avenues. They were said by Denzil to have been dug up by a local farmer and purchased by King Leopold II for 150 Belgian francs and brought here. In the past we had also heard they were the result of a meteor break up. Our "thanks" to Anne (front white shirt) who led us today and to Joan (2 right of Anne) and Jane G (left of Anne) who worked on the route as well as alternatives depending on what the weather would be like today!
Fri., Aug. 1st Anne''s Tervuren Walk
On the way back we passed by the Museum of African History in Tervuren and its beautiful grounds with many photo opportunities for us ... right ladies?
