Fri., Mar. 30th - Sandy's Woluwe Walk
We were pleased to take a little time over our mint teas at the Brasserie des Etangs where we were given a corner table and a view of the terrace and lake beyond. It was a pleasant spot to enjoy our refreshments and the sunshine which was becoming more in evidence as the afternoon progressed.

Mon., Mar. 26th - Isobel's Walk in Auderghem
All that beautiful sunshine and a great walk through the forest was just perfect for this first full day after going onto Day Light Savings Time. It was such a treat to be outside on a day like this.
Mon., Mar. 27th - Isobel's Walk in Auderghem
Twelve of us were fortunate to find time to enjoy this beautiful, sunny afternoon with spring in the air. Our "thanks" to Isobel (white bag lady) who led us around the foret starting from under the E-411 ... without missing a beat! We were later able to enjoy our refreshments at the ADEPS center cafeteria nearby.
Fri., Mar. 23rd - Sandy's Auderghem Walk
Bundled up against the elements we look like we are ready for almost anything. Just a little rain off and on to keep us refreshed. We did warm up and enjoyed the outing around Auderghem in the Foret de Soignes.
Fri., Mar. 23rd - Sandy's Auderghem Walk
A little Scottish poetry break is often good for the soul. Thanks to Neil for this and for the translation, too. Moira held up her cell for us all to hear. Then it was back to the trail.

Fri., Mar. 23rd - Sandy's Auderghem walk
Well, after all that exercise we deserved a few little crepes n'est pas??? So we did indulge just a bit ... and warmed up at Au Repos des Chasseurs where we we glad to find one of our regular waiters who took good care of us quite nicely and served us promptly!

Mon., Mar. 19th - Sheila's Tervuren Walk
Today was colder (about 6C), overcast with occasional sprinkles and later snow flurries. We warmed up quickly, however, and enjoyed Sheila's lead through the forest behind the African Museum in Tervuren. It was quite a change from this time last week though!
Mon., Mar. 19th - Sheila's Tervuren Walk
With snowflakes falling we were more than ready to take our break at the Mont Blanc where it was nice and warm and the waitress accomodated our request to gather 4 or 5 tables so we were able to seat all 15 of us together! Samples of the chocolates they sell were not bad either.

Fri., Mar. 16th - Sandy's Walk at La Hulpe
Although the weather was a bit cooler and less sunny than earlier in the week it turned out to be very good for walking behind the Chateau de la Hulpe for the eight of us who participated. We were very happy to welcome back, Paulette, (2nd from right) who joined us from California. She started this walking group for WIC in '89!
Fri., Mar. 16th - Sandy's Walk at La Hulpe
Finally, the Chateau! After an unscheduled "extension" of the original walk ... we reached our final destinations ... the Chateau de la Hulpe and the cafe close by for our much anticipated refreshments! Where was Jennifer with her gps to measure all our steps when we needed her???
Fri., Mar. 16th - Sandy's La Hulpe Walk
A break was quite welcome at L'Homme Bleu where the restaurant was no doubt pleased with our extended walk as several of us chose to indulge in soup, salads and desserts in addition to our usual coffees and teas. Note - Sandy's green beer in honor of St. Patrick's Day tomorrow!

Mon., Mar. 12th - Sheila's Walk in Renival
The budding signs of spring were in evidence everywhere as we made our way through the woodlands near Lasne! There were 17 of us out to enjoy the unseasonably warm weather. It got up to 18C ... a few more days like this and all the trees will burst forth!

Mon., Mar. 12th - Sheila's Renival Walk
Well, it was either shoot into the sun for this photo or squint into the sun. Guess which one we settled on? Dazzled by the abundance of sunshine on an early March afternoon after several weeks of rain we were just delighted to enjoy such great weather for our walk. "Thanks" to Sheila for a splendid outing from Place de Renival around the outskirts of Lasne.
Mon., Mar. 12th - Sheila's Renival Walk
This incredibly beautiful afternoon continued with our refreshment stop at La Tartine in Lasne where we could sit out on their sunny terrace and bask in the warmth. With 17 of us it was hard to all fit around one table ... We did the best we could by taking over most of their space at the far end of the elevated terrace!

RE: Mon., Mar. 12th - Walk in Renival!
I have had a fantastic time in Pakistan but more standing about looking at monuments than walking, so am totally unfit.
I have returned to find this great dictionary of Starting Points. I had very little input. Jennifer did the bulk of the work with some help from Sandy. This should make it easier for everyone to find the parkings. Many thanks. Please note that the numbers given in the March and April NEWSWIC are wrong as we had not combined the lists when I sent in the schedules.
Many thanks also to those who stepped in for me while I was away. I hope the weather was benign.
Monday 12 we meet at Place Renival # 23.
If anyone would like to join Keith and me on the Peace March, Sunday March 18, 14.00 at the Gare du Nord we could walk together
Look forward to seeing everyone on Monday

Fri., Mar. 9th - Kathleen's Walk!
This is where we began Kathleen's walk in the magnificent Hotel de Ville of Saint Gilles! Nine of us braved the elements today to see some most interesting parts of Brussels. Our many "thanks" to Kathleen for providing us with such an interesting and varied excursion. We saw many "hidden" spots of our city as well as a wide variety of architectural edifaces. We walked for a good 2 hours from Saint Gilles to Forest. We then stopped for refreshments at L'Abbaye de Forest before taking the tram back to our starting point. What a great afternoon!

Fri., Mar. 9th - Kathleen's walk from Saint Gilles
Off we go ... at a fairly rapid pace. The rain was pretty constant through out the afternoon. We were happy to spot real evidences of spring though through out our trek.
Fri., Mar. 9th - Kathleen's Walk
Looking a bit damp ... but, obviously having a good time, we stopped for this photo as we were aided in the shot by a passer-by. We know Kathleen could tell us right where we are ... but, ???
Fri., Mar. 9th - Arrival!
After our brisk two hour excursion through the rainy streets of Saint Gilles and Forest we arrived at the magnificent L'Abbaye de Forest where we were able to take a respit and view the rain drops from inside the warmth of this most attractive complex.
Fri., Mar. 9th - L'Abbaye de Forest
Escaping from the rain was easy at the L'Abbaye de Forest where we reviewed the menu and settled on some warm drinks and several of us indulged in crepes ... (no names, though)! Amazingly enough as we were finishing the sun appeared! Is this Brussels ... or, what???
Thurs., Mar. 8th - Showtime!!!
Here are most of the ten of us who journied downtown to see the Thursday night's production of "Absolute H*ll" by Rodney Ackland. Our many "Thanks" to Anne (second left) for organizing the tickets and seating for us. Wow ... we do clean up well ... !
"ABSOLUTE H*LL !!!"
Well ... it was a grand production! Unfortunately, this photo does not do the end of the show justice but we were proud of our WIC Walker thespians, Janet (sixth left) alias "Doris" and Dolphine (second right) aka ... "Julia Shillitoe" ... (nice socks ladies) who performed their roles so magnificently Thursday evening at the Theater Arte. We all enjoyed it ... great job!
Fri., Mar.9th - Kathleen's St. Gilles Walk More Details
Hello Walkers!
I just got home from about 8 hours walking around St. Gilles and Forest and wish we could have a three hour walk instead of a two hour one, but I'll do my best! I won't have to rush off for my daughter tomorrow, so depending on where we get to by tea time, I may offer to show those of you who want to continue a little more, if the weather is nice again. I haven't learned much more about parking near the Hotel de Ville of St. Gilles, but can give you the streets which surround it. It's on Place Meurice Van Meenen. Ave. A. Demeur runs along the front and Rue de Savoie along the back, Rue de Lombardie on the east side and Rue Arthur Diderich along the west. There is no parking lot anywhere around but in general the streets did not seem densely packed. There are many ways to get there by public transport. The nearest tram stop is Horta which has the 81 and 82 trams which originate at Merode (close to Cinquantenaire's parking, so that's a possibility if you must drive and want to be sure to park easily.) Allow about half an hour for the tram ride from Merode, just in case. (Note, at Merode, the tram stop is on the north side of Ave. de Tervuren, not on Ave. de la Chasse which it then turns to go down immediately after the stop.) When you get off at Horta, just walk forward a little and you'll see the H de V up on the left. If you have extra time, I highly recommend walking to park Louis Morichal which has a splendid row of Art Nouveau houses along the near side. Tram 18 goes to the Barriere tram stop direct from Gare du Midi (allow about 20 minutes) At Barriere, which is a 7 pointed star traffic circle, take Ave. P. Dejeer one block to the Hotel de Ville -- you should be able to see it from the circle. The "pre-Metro" stops at Horta metro stop, which is not the same as the Horta tram stop. I think this also comes from Gare du Midi, but I've never taken it. On my transport map, it looks like it's the number 3 tram and makes fewer stops, underground, on the way to Horta. If you take it, walk south half a block and look to your right. I think you'll see the Hotel de Ville. We will meet in the covered courtyard of the Hotel de Ville de St. Gilles among the enormous parade mannequins and go in to look at the inside at 1:05 p.m. sharp. If you are late, go in and wait by the back door, looking out onto the Ave. Jef Lambeaux which leads up to the prison -- that's the way we'll leave to begin our walk, about 10 minutes later. We won't be able to visit the inside of the Hotel de Ville de Foret unfortunately, since it's closed after 11:45 most days, except by appointment, but we can peer in the big doors and see the amazing deco stained glass. Let me know at 02 742 9162 between 8:30 and 9:00 Friday morning if you plan to come. Or feel free to send me an e-mail. I promise to check! Looking forward to seeing you all, and praying for sunshine -- it was so pretty today! Kathleen

Mon., Mar. 5th - Marie Jo's Jezus Eik Walk
Well, here we are all assembled for the group photo amid ferns and moss on the tree stump from which the camera is taking our photo. Although the sunshine is in our eyes ... we are not complaining after the ugly weather start to the afternoon!
Mon., Mar. 5th - Marie Jo's walk
The rain, hail and wind managed to move out just in time for our walk this afternoon and amazingly, 12 of us arrived for Marie Jo's walk in Jezus Eik! The mud we encountered in the low areas did manage to rival some of that found on Sheila's walks!!! We still enjoyed our afternoon walk in the bois. "Thanks", Marie Jo!!!
Mon., Mar. 5th - Marie Jo's Walk
"Fun & Games" ... with Marie Jo! ... Does Christa approve? She did manage to stack the cubes without them falling!
