Paulette's walk in Ohain/Lasne on August 29th 2011

A lovely walk in the Lasne area. Many thanks to Christa for showing us various nooks and crannies we wouldn't have discovered without her knowledge of the area.

Friday 19 August 2011 - Jane's walk in Jesus Eik

We set off on the walk today with our fingers crossed as yesterday evening there was a terrific storm with high winds and gallons of water pouring from the sky. Needless to say there was quite a bit of mud but not nearly as much as anticipated.
It goes without saying that Heika (sorry if the spelling is wrong), Christa's dog, stole the show when I was taking the "family" photo. Who said never work with animals??
It was very humid in the woods and at one point you could almost see the steam coming out of the ground. We saw one large tree that had been blown down in the storm and the workmen were doing their best to clear it up as fast as possible. As we were walking along we could hear great merriment in the background and very soon we realised there were children having great fun with a character dressed in what looked like a St Nicolas costume. Strange in the month of August, don't you think?
We were all feeling very peckish today and everyone had something to eat. The crepes are good in this place. I don't know who the guy in the background is but I didn't have the heart to cut him out of the photo as he posed so very nicely. Thanks for leading the walk Jane and I hope you were in time to catch your connection to England!!

Greetings from Sandy in Georgia, USA

Hi Ladies,

Since summer keeps marching on and we struggle to keep going in the heat of Georgia ... I wanted to send a big "Hello" to the WIC Walkers from the Walk'n Talk Newcomers Walking group in Georgia from this week's Wednesday outing!

The ladies here are jealous to see the WIC walkers wearing blue jeans and occasion jackets while we dress as lightly as possible. We often follow with refreshments around a table at a Starbucks or similar type of café!

Enjoy seeing what you all are up to on the blog. Keep Walking!

Sandy

Anne's Jesus-Eik walk

We were all prepared for rain today, but the weather was kind to us and we stayed dry for our entire 10km walk!

We ignored a sign saying this path was closed.....then we found out why! There was an enormous muddy hole, but the intrepid WIC walkers found a way round it.

We were well looked after at the Cafe de la Foret, where we met up with Sheila and Ghislaine. The pancakes with lemon and sugar were especially good!

Monday 8 August 2011 - Margaret's Walk in Wezembeek/Tervuren

On Monday a few of us decided to brave the changeable weather and head out on Margaret's walk around Wezembeek/Tervuren. Margaret had planned a new walk in Braine l'Alleud but as there are roadworks on the Ring at the moment it will kept for another day.
We were lucky the rain held off until the end of the walk as most of the terrain was a bit exposed but lovely nonetheless. We started off at the terminus of the 39 tram, passed by fields of corn, some lovely houses and I could not resist taking a photo of a huge datura plant sitting in front of a garage door.
We walked on a little further and came across Bill and Ben hanging out in their nasturtium patch and again could not resist a photo of some lovely sunflowers. No need to hide behind the sunflower Jane Gi. we can still see you.Towards the end of the walk there were some cute little ponies grazing in a field just by the old hippodrome.
We just made it into the Yearling before the heavens opened and down came the rain. I felt really sorry for the children who were absolutely drenched as they passed by on horseback. Jane Ge. unfortunately was bitten by a horsefly and had to apply slices of lemon to control the swelling. We were glad that Joan was feeling well enough to join us for coffee today. Thanks Margaret for a really enjoyable walk.
P.S. Sorry for the quality of the photos today - I was trying out the camera on my new mobile phone.

Bonnie's walk in Zoete Water on Monday 1st August 2011

We were 13 strong on Monday for a lovely 8.55 km walk in Zoet Water. We were just under 2 hours actual walking but added time on for admiring the deep purple butterfly bush, the poppy fields, picking some yummy wild blackberries, visiting the interior of the seldom open chapel in the woods, walking past one of Belgium's largest sparkling wine vineyard/ wineries. The weather cooperated providing a warm humid afternoon. Brasserie St Jean is a fine spot for refreshment sitting under the trees in the garden. Gisela certainly selected the most enticing waffle with gorgeous fresh fruit, beautiful enough to make us want to return.

Thanks Bonnie for the walk, the photos and the commentary.
