WWW Open-Air Lunch

It was around zero degrees as we sat down for lunch outside La Terrasse at Merode. We were such a big group that they couldn't fit us inside! Fortunately the food arrived quickly and was delicious, especially the fish and chips! Thanks Deborah for organising it for us.

Let's come here again on a hot summer day!

Paulette's walk in Bertem on 21st February 2011

It was very cold on Monday when we began the walk. There was general agreement that we were making the effort of walking because the group existed and it is much easier to leave your warm home when you know a group of friends is waiting for you to show up! The Bertem walk is another lovely walk worthwhile doing again in spring and summer, a real country walk that takes you through fields and woods. Once more we were happy to relax afterwards in the comfortable and nice cafe"La Vignette"where some of us chose to eat delicious Brussels wafels met slagroom...

Anne's walk in Sterrebeek and Tervuren

It was a cold afternoon, so we began our walk from the Tervuren Elephant at a brisk pace and didn't stop until we reached the "Ponderosa". Unfortunately it was closed..... so we kept on walking!

After the windy fields of Sterrebeek and the residential roads of Moorsel, we were glad to reach the beautiful lakes of Tervuren Park.

When we reached the wooden elephant near the museum, the group lined up for a picture without even being asked - they are so well trained!

As always, we were welcomed at La Vignette by the friendly waiter who moved the tables for us so that we could all sit together, and served our coffee very efficiently. We also had some delicious extra treats (zero calories) - thank you Barbara!

St Valentine's Day - 14 February 2011 - Isobel's walk in Auderghem

Hi folks, sorry about the delay in adding the photos of Monday's walk to the blog but I had a bit of bother downloading them from my mobile phone. Speaking of which I must apologise for the poor quality of the images. Next time I will bring my camera or try to adjust the settings on my mobile before I start to snap away.
The weather was a bit grey and overcast but fortunately not cold. There were plenty of dog walkers, joggers and our "favourite" - cyclists - out and about. They were cutting down some of the trees in the forest (never a pleasant sight) so it was a little bit noisy sometimes. After a couple of hours of walking it was time to pop into the local tennis club for a coffee.
To accompany the coffee, Martha supplied a large heart-shaped (not to mention DELICIOUS)cookie she had brought from Amsterdam and someone brought along equally delicious heart-shaped chocs. A nice touch on St Valentine's Day, don't you think?

Paulette's walk in the Foret de Soignes from the Dreve du Comte on 11th February 2011

In spite of the drizzle, it was

"Step we gaily, on we go

heel for heel and toe for toe

arm in arm and row and row..."

(with apologies to Mairi's Wedding!)

Sometimes it's nice to be stumped...!

All the history of the forest is eloquently recorded in the delicate pattern of the tree stump.

Margosha's walk in Meise on 7th February 2011

10 of us did a great 2 hour walk in Meise, stopping every so often to admire the lovely town and countryside. And this under the guidance of Margosha. Thank you Margosha.
Several lovely churches, lots of topiary gardening (does Edward Scissorshands live in Meise?), garden gnomes, horses, sheep, rams, chickens everywhere. There was a 12th century mill still in operation and you could see the Atomium in the distance. Spring is coming as evidenced by the lovely yellow flowers. All of us enjoyed the sunshine and then refreshments in town. Lori took the prize with the plate of apple tart, fruit, and ice cream. A truly lovely day. Thank you Lydia and Anna for your photos and comment.

Paulette's walk in Jesus Eik on 4th February 2011

Here we are in Jesus Eik again. Today was a perfect day to walk. Not too cold, not too warm, no rain. So we decided to walk on little dry paths from Kapucijnendreef through the forest to "Quatre Bras" then towards the Arboretum and back to Kapucijnendreef and Istas. All this within 2 hours.

With Sheila's group, we formed a nice table of about 15. It was time to have a drink. Some of us could not resist a delicious apple pancake. It was so convivial there that we really didn't want to leave. Alas, all good things come to an end (and better to leave before the rush hour!)
